A Rusty Estate...If You Like American Pickers

Maybe I should update my tentanus shot if I am going to be traipsing through these kinds of places:

This was totally an American Pickers style estate sale complete with lots of dust and cobwebs. I was waiting for Mike and Frank to pop up at any moment!

Weathered, worn, rusty, shabby, chippy. If you like that kind of thing, this sale would have been right up your alley. It isn't quite my style, but I can surely appreciate it and who knows, there might be a piece of mid century goodness hidden in there for me?!

I was very curious about this estate because it is basically a farmhouse with several shack/barn outbuildings and a gravel drive stuck right smack dab in the middle of many city housing developments. I frequently visit the gas station across the street from this out-of-place home, and think to myself that the old people who live there are sitting on a mint!

It is right at a major intersection and I am sure developers have been clamoring for the property for years. A family of hold-outs, yes! My kind of people!

The people running the estate sale were very friendly and allowed me to photograph. The owner of the company also gave me the history of the owner. The property was a farm at one time, which I could have told you, but the people owned all of the property within a few mile circumference of the home. They had been selling it off piece by piece, and this was what was left. The woman who owned the house had passed 6 weeks ago and the man had passed quite some years back.

After the estate company guy sorted the tools from this building and he thought this shack had been a slaughter house for pigs.

To me, it looked like a haunted shed, creepy!

The house, no A/C only window units and it was hot as heck.

There was a set of mid century lawn furniture that I just loved. This made me think of my bloggy friend Nina and her recent retro lawn chair find.

How about a German headstone from the 1800's?

A toy for a little guy...

A toy for a big guy...

What a beautiful day!

I left the sale empty handed. The way cool stuff like the child sized rusty car and a few large jugs were too spendy. I just loved the patio set but we don't need one and the hubby would have definitely nixed the cushion design.

Have you been to any unique estates lately? Do tell and be sure to share your finds over on the Facebook page.

    1. If it would have been a steal I was going to stick it in my flower garden and plant petunias inside.

  3. Those vintage pedal cars are going for a mint these days, especially if they're restored.

  4. How cool is that! I've never been to an estate sale but it's something I've always wanted to do. After all, I'm always on the lookout for a gravestone...
