The sale was run by my favorite estate company and so I knew I was in for fair pricing and good organization. I arrived to find a large selection of glassware, jewelry, along with a the usual furniture, clothing, and general vintage goodness...including Vera.
When us retrophiles hear the name Vera, we usually think of beautiful scarves with the cute little ladybug logo. While looking through the needle-point and linen items, I came across this:
They had the Vera name and logo on them but these were not scarves, they were vintage linen placemats!
The edging is a tangerine color (Pantone color of the year) and each features a cute vegetable print. There are eight total, 2 of each pattern.
To me, these are unique since I have never seen the Vera name attached to anything but scarves. I scooped them up and will put them in the etsy shop here.

ReplyDeletecute! great for a gardener or a foodie. I was wondering, how do you decide if something goes on etsy v. ebay? Is it just vintage = etsy and everything else on ebay, or some other formula?

DeleteMany times it is vintage=Etsy and current=Ebay, however it also depends on sell through. If I check the completeds on ebay and something is selling through at a high percentage rate and good price, it will go there.
I am torn on where to list these though because the sell through rate on ebay is pretty good and at a decent margin, yet the competition for these on etsy is low and Vera is a popular search.
Maybe I will put try them in auction on ebay first then switch over to etsy if they don't sell.

ReplyDeleteThose are great! I found some Vera strawberry linen napkins last year at a garage sale for 25 cents. I put them in my etsy shop and they sold in 1 day. People love Vera!

DeleteBefore my ebay days about 2 years ago, I had picked up these beautiful vintage cloth napkins that had Vera on them. We have been using them for two years. They are white with daisies on them. Never knew they were good seller until now. Thanks for sharing!

ReplyDeleteI recently purchased some Vera placemats and listed them as napkins. I thought, "Who wants placemats that are so flimsy?" Someone purchased them, then reamed me on my "laziness" for not knowing that they were placemats and gave me non-positive feedback with a no-so-nice comment attached.
